Common Contaminants
Common contaminants found in commercial ventilation systems can vary in severity, with many only being found during scheduled ventilation system inspections.
Microbial Growth
Found in most ventilation systems in humid climates and/or systems with elevated humidity due to improperly working mechanical equipment.
Insulation
Fibers and pieces of insulation sometimes become loosened due to age, aggressive system maintenance and/or improper installation.
Dirt/Dust
Found in virtually all ventilation systems. Primary causes are poor filtration, duct leakage and overall lack of preventative maintenance.
Construction Debris
Often HVAC mechanical systems collect significant amounts of debris and particulate during construction activities within a building. It is highly recommended that newly installed HVAC systems, or HVAC systems undergoing renovation, be verified clean before system operation.
Droppings
Most structures eventually become less rodent-proof due to deterioration, alteration, or repair. Heating, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical service, and fire sprinklers provide some of the most commonly encountered rodent entry points.
Hidden Dangers
Many times the most dangerous potential IAQ and health risks are not easily seen.
Damaged roofs, leaking pipes and similar problems can easily cause water to penetrate most ventilation systems.
